GNU/Linux Can Cross 5% Market Share on Desktops/Laptops Next Year (Not Counting ChromeOS)
LAST year in December the 'measurers' of GNU/Linux "market share" (a somewhat ambiguous, subjective term) measured it at around 8.5% of Web-connected desktops/laptops in India, as seen from logs of sites that share long and large log files with statCounter (decent sites would not do such a thing!). Right now it's 14.5%.
Looking outside India, which is the largest population in the world, GNU/Linux grew from 2.93% to 3.7% this past year or from 2.09% to 3.7% in the past 24 months. It almost doubled in two years. Apple's OS only increased from 15% to 16% in that same time period.
Let's hope that next year GNU/Linux can reach or even cross 5% worldwide. It helps dispel some old myths. █
