If WordPress Knows Well Enough to Self-Host Its Podcast, Why Can't GNU/Linux Shows Do the Same?
Even our datacentre hosting is UK-based now
THE world of podcasting (and videos) about GNU/Linux is far from dead, but sadly a lot have outsourced it to Gulagtube, foolishly or short-sightedly believing it was "free" and "convenient". Wishful thinking; wait and see what comes next...
I've been tempted over the past fortnight to make many more short videos about relevant subjects, but the priority right now is restoring services and converting everything to static pages. Today we restored the full site archive (blog and Wiki) in the Gemini capsule, which can be reached or accessed via either gemini://techrights.org
or gemini://gemini.techrights.org
(home.techrights.org
is just a Web proxy for the time being; it's hosted from my living room!).
For those who want videos and podcasts, here are today's latest additions from other sites [1-5], starting with Free Software Security Podcast (they say "Open Source") and This Week in Linux. Some of them outsourced to Gulagtube, even if they have their own domain with prepaid hosting. WordPress self-hosts its episodes [5], Free Software Security Podcast outsourced to libsyn.com, This Week in Linux outsourced to two sites (including Gulagtube), Linux User Space and LINUX Unplugged outsourced to the same site, so this means all GNU/Linux episodes today aren't self-hosted; ironically enough only WordPress.org (which sells outsourced hosting at WordPress.com) did it correctly.
Let's make it "the normal" to not outsource shows. █
