zine bits, writing bits; datestamps?
More stuff! I'm sure this will slow down as I run out of my (not all that big honestly) backlog, but that's okie. I have a few zines up, and I added some more microfiction ~

LOCAL REPORT OF THE 31-12-2023
From this local I learned a lot of things:
- Don't make the list the night before it's the fastest way to lose - You can't play around all handtraps and you need to commit at a certain point - The ability of the pilot is *REALLY* important - Traptrix as a strategy is actually competent.

[EN] re: Well Paying Jobs That Don’t Suck
My wife resigned yesterday after 4 months of being uncomfortable in her recent job, and 1 month of being full time there and freelancing afterwards.
It's frustrating for her the ridiculous salary for the amount of work, and the activities being meaningless. The usual, starting in the lowest position of the chain, not having many growth opportunities, where even the top manager earns a low wage. David Graeber wrote about 'Bullshit jobs', and it's been sad for me seeing friends and family there.

Caution if you're a Chromebook Linux user
If you are like me, budget-conscious computing options lead to Linux. In the past, Linux often meant used or refurbished computers. In fact, I still have a Toshiba laptop from 2009 that runs on Bodhi Linux. But older hardware is slow no matter what. So I purchased an ASUS Chromebook a couple of years ago when I found out that Google has officially supported Debian in the form of a built-in virtual machine since 2019 (hence no need for Crouton). This makes Chromebook the most popular Linux computer for the general consumer market!

Wordsquirreller simplified
I announced a new game "Wordsquirreller" the other week, but it had unnecessarily complicated mechanics which I suspect put some potential players off. I've since trimmed and optimised the game, and now I think it's pretty neat.

Getting to know Rust
Lately I've been learning the Rust programming language and really enjoying it. Like most hobbyist programmers (I think), most of my programming experience has been in higher-level interpreted languages like Python. I have often been curious about learning a lower-level language like C, but the idea of having to manually manage memory seems tedious and error-prone.
In recent years, there are a number of languages which aim to be somewhat like C in that they are compiled, statically typed and performant, but with in-built memory management and some high-level abstractions available in the standard library. Go and Rust are probably the most talked about languages in that category and I've been considering learning one of them for a while.
