books, lots'a books
...asking if I used to host a large book collection. No. However, it inspired me to do so. I have mirrored Project Gutenberg (just the text files) and scripted a simple grep based search of the index text file.

Frames Of Reference- Chapter 4
Memories rush to me like oncoming traffic. A fragment here, a vague recollection there, one place tied to another by coincidence. All colliding headlong onto me, and all I can do is kneel down, cradle my face in my hands, and hope the impact doesn’t hurt too much.

Frames Of Reference- Chapter 5
The sunscreen in my palm is growing complacent. I’ve never liked sunscreen, never liked the way it feels on your skin. Even though it should feel refreshing, it doesn’t. It’s warm and viscous and it creates stains on clothes. I keep thinking I’ll opt for the type that’s a condensed stick, like deodorant, but whenever I’m at Walmart I’m in a rush and I stupidly grab the tube. Well, we need it. We’ve used up around twenty tubes so far, although I’m not keeping an exact tally.
I’m sleep deprived, still feeling the effects of the ribs and the building is locked. I looked in the windows, they’re all dark and the receptionist is nowhere to be found.
Finally, ten minutes late, right when I’m prepared to call the whole thing off and assume the facility is shut down due to unforeseen circumstances, a gas leak or something, Bradford rolls around the corner, smug grin at the helm of his modified Bentley Continental. He lets out a hearty cry and pulls up alongside me.

2024 Week 2/3/4: Photos
A family friend flew into town to visit for a few days this week. We arrived at the airport quite early on the day of his flight, so we decided to park and wait inside the terminal. A fire extinguisher was mounted on the pillar next to our parking space. Its metal case had seen better days.

Collective delusions of a past that didn't exist
When I was in my last stretch of high school one of my closest friends and I were really into this game called Omori. It's a JRPG game in the tradition of Undertale or Earthbound that has themes of childhood trauma and dreams, both figuratively and literally.
The game takes place between two worlds: one where the protagonist Sunny is asleep (Headspace) and one where he's awake (Faraway Town). Headspace is a sort of idealized and fantastical image of Sunny's childhood, and so despite Faraway Town being a familiar, bright, apparently happy place one might recognize from Earthbound-type games, it's still haunted by this feeling of loss--the loss of what Headspace retains.

The last bike I'll ever need
Strasbourg had (and probably still does) a great tram system, but I still couldn't bear the wait. It didn't matter that the wait at the stations were rarely more than 3 minutes or that the tram could outpace any cars thanks to its reserved lanes and priority at traffic lights. Something in me didn't like the idea of waiting to wait some more. You waited for a tram at the station, only to wait on the tram for the next station, and waited for the people to get on and off... For some time, I would read during the ride, and it would pass instantly, but I had lost the habit along the way and now I just grew restless.

Setting up NixOS
I got a new laptop (yay!), so I need to set it up. A good opportunity to try NixOS for the first time. Actually for the second time - the first time, a few years ago, I bounced off it almost immediately.

Thoughts on the Gemini Protocol After a Year
My site is first and foremost a gemini capsule, although I built a program to convert the files I write in gemtext to static html and gophermap files. This includes the interface to view my git repositories. This system works quite well for me so far. If anything I want to simplify my site even more.
After having my site be a gemini capsule for over a year, I figured I would state my thoughts on the Gemini protocol, gemtext, and geminispace. This post is mostly meant for folks who use the gemini protocol, even if this post is also available in HTTP and Gopher.
