How to listen to music
These days, I am thinking a lot about how I listen to music. By that I mean the technical medium I use (radio, CD, streaming, etc.), and by extension, the relation I have with the music I am listening to.
I've always been reluctant to using streaming platforms, the idea of not owning, not having control on the music is something I don't like. I often see some playlists with "holes", some tracks that are no longer available and that can no longer be listened to. I don't like that.

Adventures in high dining
Bunny and I found oursevles at La Nouvelle Maison [1], an upscale eating establishment in downtown Boca Raton [2]. I'm not sure why she picked the place—perhaps because our previous upscale dining establishment, Root Italian Kitchen [3] is no longer open. Or perhaps it's “just because.”
In any case, we had a reservation for 8:00 pm. I made it yesterday, as Bunny was running about Chez Boca worrying about the dress code (turns out—“business casual” so I don't have to don my International Man of Mystery [4] clothes). I received a text notification a few hours later, and a phone call today, asking to confirm our time.

Well, that was weird
Bunny's pharmacy just called to remind us to call and remind them to renew Bunny's prescription. Um … okay?

Teddy Bear
He was clear that he identifies as a "strongman", who happens to earn his living by doing paramedic work. I couldn't help but think of my own profession as a librarian. The identification with the role is such a significant part of the profession that we now – thanks to Fobazi Ettarh – speak of "vocational awe". I've attempted, with reasonable success I think, to escape this trap. I'm lucky to be in a position where I can work a four day week, and people are often confounded by the idea. "What do you do on your day off?" they ask. I'm never quite sure how to answer this. It's not like I have a "second job" I'm doing, it feels like saying "wow you take every weekend off? What do you do with all that time?" On the other hand, I do sometimes struggle to balance in my head what it is that I _want_ to be doing with my extra day of leisure. Sometimes I feel compelled to read up on topics to do with libraries, and then I worry that I'm doing it wrong: "they're not even paying me right now!"

What memories for our grandchildren ?
I remembered the stories my grandfather used to tell me when I was a little boy. They were about his childhood, of course, but also about the war, the Second World War. My dad also lived through a couple of years of the Second World War and told me about it. And then there was conscription... in Germany. I have been also conscripted much later, one of the last young French people to do so. But apart from that, what could I tell children about my life? The fall of the Eastern Bloc, the Berlin Wall? Yes, it was so interesting, but now it seems so far away. The beginning of personal computers, the Internet? I wrote about it on the French blog. It was fun, but when I see what we have made of it...

CollapseOS is Foundation for climate doomers
A few years ago I read the first book in the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov. If you're not familiar, it's a science fiction novel about a galactic empire and its decline. The impetus of the story revolves around a man who developed a new discipline fusing psychology, history and math to create a sort of predictive model for human civilization. He predicted that in the near future, the empire would start to collapse, and if there was no effort to preserve it, human progress would be reversed to something akin to the stone age. His plan was to create a "foundation" that will protect human knowledge through the collapse, and the story follows the foundation and how it grows and changes over time.

Slides for porting Piper to RK3588 at local meetup
I'm invited to give a talk about porting Piper to RK3588 at local group. The talk is given in Chinese. But I've translated the slides into English. And both version are available at the end of this post. For reference, the slides are about a previous post of mine.

I've started working through the rustlings course thingy and It's soooo good, seriously if you've done a little video intro or something and have the basics down of rust, best thing to move on to, the tasks are fun and interesting, and it doesn't do to much hand holding, plus it's all essentially automatic, just run the program, edit the files (in an editor of your choice!!!!) and save, it auto reloads them, and checks if you've got it to run correctly, then you move on by deleting "IM NOT DONE", easy peasy.

“It is just a barebones framework written as a love letter to the language of C.”
I'm used to having some of my posts make it to the Orange Site [1], but I was not expecting to have one of my software projects (in this case, `mod_blog [2]`) make it to the Orange Site [3]. I'm finding it especially amusing to read this thread [4]. I did not expect `mod_blog` to be a “love letter to C.”
