Greece ☛ Why are so many companies ‘rightsizing’? [Ed: Euphemism of the year; as if the issue is hiring too much rather than being in debt and losing lots of money. Hiring too many people is about faking one's perceived "worth".]
As the era of low interest rates came to a halt over the past two years, hundreds of tech companies slashed jobs.
Alphabet, Google’s parent company, cut 12,000 jobs, or about 6% of its global workforce, at the start of 2023. Meta laid off more than 10,000 employees, or roughly 13% of its staff. So did other household names, including Microsoft, Amazon and Disney.
More than 260,000 tech employees were laid off in 2023, according to Layoffs.fyi, a site that tracks job cuts across the tech industry.
Google just announced more cuts this month.
Some executives were squeamish about using the term “laid off,” so many cloaked such discussions in opaque language.

Coffee Makers
While I love tea, I also fancy a coffee from time to time. It is something where the big and bold flavour just hits right at times. Tea is for slow days where you can take time to savour. Meanwhile, coffee is a great way to have a quick break which helps you forget the nonsense from before the break and reset the mind. Both have their uses, annoyances and delights.

Bat-cling crazy
Powerfully cold outside overnight. Ran the water every bathroom trip. Awoke to the river looking like a cold active volcano: steam rising around patches of newly formed ice sailing by with the flow.
Last night I came across some online text from my landlady of the place I lived (900 miles from where I grew up) after landing my first real job. She was gloriously creative.
(She couldn't possibly still be alive, because I recall her saying she was the same age as Ronald Reagan, whom Wikipedia tells me was born in 1911.)

#Lore24 - Day 13 - On the Young Journeys Mandate
One of the attempts by the Silver Monarch to prevent another civil war was to force teenagers to travel across the country in hopes of interacting with others outside of their political, religious, and other beliefs. This mandate, called the Young Journeys Mandate[1], was a requirement that all minors must travel across the country on a trip no less than two weeks and a hundred leagues.
-
#Lore24 - Day 14 - On Crystal Spheres
One of the more popular frameworks for using magic is the Crystal Spheres[1] technique. That is to say, popular based on the Tarsan[2]-influenced societies where certain attitudes and cultures dictate how the magic is studied and used. This ties a lot into the idea that belief shapes the world, a magical version of linguistic relativity[3], also known as the Sapir–Whorf hypothesis. Those who embrace the crystal spheres have a tendency to use the crystal spheres when looking at the world. This is also the golden hammer[4] approach which I see throughout the world.

Of text editors and writing posts
It looked nice so I tried it for a few minutes. Sadly it didn't work with Powershell, which I use at work, although it does for my laptop where I usually write this log (An old Dell with a decent keyboard and Xubuntu) I've found hard to write long texts on a terminal. Maybe due to the small font, or the limits on moving the windows. I tried Vim, Helix, Nano, Micro, among other TUI editors, and I always go back to Visual Studio Code. I feel I'm more effective there...

ssh
ssh is pretty cool. it's installed on almost every computer, it has OK performance, has authentication built in, and how to use it is widely understood.
a single pipe of bytes probably isn't the ideal format, but it works well with a single stream of packets and basically all of the unix world is all-in anyways.
there are many things that maybe don't need to be websites. or, they can be websites too, but maybe just http to a web browser isn't endgame.

The two methods of managing emails
There are two general methods of managing emails. It's all about how you separate the emails that require some action from the rest:
* Method 1: read vs. unread * Method 2: inbox vs. archive
One of them is much better than the other!
