I’ve mentioned a few times now why I push back on the label content creator. My assertion that Michelangelo wasn’t creating content is the most popular quote from it, but I want to emphasise this isn’t limited to famous or globally influential people. If you’re an artist, writer, developer, designer, whomever, your artistic expression isn’t merely content. To label it as such is disrespectful, flippant, and a bit cynical.

Adventus codicis
After a very long hiatus, it's time to update the phlog a bit. In the last months I had to take care of my wife as she had surgery early September. So apart from doing all the household chores, taking her to see the docs and working, nothing really happened.

change
For a long time, I've had some unfortunate opinions of myself. I thought of myself as weak, incapable, undisciplined, whatever else. These opinions were based on my observations of myself, my actions, my failures, my successes. Of course, I failed more times than I succeeded, so it only made sense to have a negative opinion about myself, right? It only makes sense to punish myself so I do better next time, right? This *will* get people to accept me, right?..

Prince of the Goblins
This is the alleged autobiography of the notorious King Mwhon' the First, chieftain of the Goblins of the Red Valley, as you should know. Being illiterate, we believe this piece was dictated to some captured scrivener who, for reasons that should be apparent immediately, chose not to amend the King's letter but rather, adapt the Common orthography to the peculiar tongue of that specimen of humanity lost to us and gained by the goblins.

The block universe and you
The block universe is the idea that past present future is all in one big old four-dimensional “block”. You know how a doll’s house can be set up as a static three-dimensional diorama? You can look at the living room, the bedrooms, the kitchen... fun fun fun.♥ And then imagine you added a pause/play/forward/rewind button set so you could look at the living room before and after the glass table was shattered, or the bedroom before and after grandpa drinks the posset, you could go back and forth through it.

Update on GGML RKNPU2 backend and RKNPU2 1.6.0
Recently Rockchip released a new version of the RKNPU2 SDK. It enabled larger matrix multiplcation of up to K=10240 and int4 support. My last post describes briefly how I build the RKNPU2 backend for GGML. This time, I want to share what I am able to achieve with the new SDK release.

Decentralizing the AP-AT bridge?
There’s a project bridging ActivityPub and AT proto that’s pretty far along.
But it’s set up to be a single, central bridge. On the AP side, it looks like one ginormous AP server that has all AT accounts. And vice versa on on the AT side, like one big AT server that has all the AP accounts in the world. (Not sure how that's gonna work with moderation and instance-blocking.)
Not to come across as too entitled around a project that’s already incredibly ambitious, but I was a li’l disappointed in that. We already have problems with big servers like mastodon.social and threads.net. I guess what I was hoping for was more a service you could run on your instance to AT-ify it.

ThinkPads Are Amazing!
I've used many portable computers in my time, from a CP/M Kaypro to many Macs, HPs, Dells, but mostly Acer and Asus machines in the past few years, but never a ThinkPad.
Earlier this year I, for no good reason, bought an i5 T470 for under $100.00. After investing a few more bucks into a hard drive adapter and an M2 SSD drive, I installed linux and was floored by the battery life of the old gray mare. Everything worked. The display was great. The keyboard, tolerable.WiFi, power management, brightness, everything just worked. The little nipple mouse thingy was great.

The joy of several steps back
That's always the case for me.
And the main reason is that to my way of thinking, much more work goes into a recorded version of a song: many "takes", much fiddling with EQ, mixing, effects. Furthermore, I've rarely preferred a live version of a song to its what-I-want-to-call canonical version.
So I've been off and running in USENET land again. It was fun to note the comp.infosystems.gemini newsgroup, and articles therein from Gemini peoples I've encountered.

Using Titan for Gemlogs
For quite some time I've been wanting to be able to write long-form gemlogs on my phone and upload them to my capsule without having to deal with Termux. I can simply draft something on my phone over a few sittings and then post it up when it's done. I've finally finished an initial version of it. Links below.

Finally hacked together a Titan script for my capsule so I can post gemlogs from my phone. Also updates the index.gmi file with the new entry. Been wanting to do this for a while.

Staging is great
This one is what I call a “double-disclaimer”; a post so iffy that I need to stick not one but two disclaimers in front of it.
First of all, I’m glad people are making FOSS version control for the non-technical audience. Thank you for that. And if that, through your usability studies and such means that for that crowd, the “staging area” a.k.a. the “index” is just not worth its weight in confusion for them, that’s fine. Get rid of it.
