Slashdot Says Mint is Shutting Down (NOT Linux Mint), Readers Rightly Call That Clickbait
THIS shameless new clickbait from Slashdot is why its current owners, who try to woo us in IRC, failed to change our opinion about the site's track record. Just recently Slashdot reminded us of this again... and again (more examples in our wiki).
To quote some of the comments on the above clickbait: "A headline saying Mint is shutting down on a tech site without making it clear it is not Linux Mint probably should be treated as click bait. How hard would have it been to write "Intuit Mint Is Shutting Down", and therefore not risk the health of concerned Linux Mint users?"
Another person said: "And I thought Mint was a Linux distro."
There's lots more around there. One person noted, "and I nearly lost it! It's funny because I still use Linux Mint but haven't used my Mint account in over a decade."
"And I thought Mint was a Linux distro," said another person. What kind of technical editor honestly fails to see the issue? It's hard to prove it was deliberate, trying to discredit a well-known GNU/Linux distro that's not controlled by a Microsoft-connected corporation.
Was this deliberate? We may never know. They've not corrected/rectified the headline though. 2 days have passed. █
