Google is Failing Millions of People Who Wish to Know More About GNU/Linux
Google News fails to see thousands of blogs focused on Linux (there's no lack of relevant coverage, but Google filters out almost every source while treating microsoft.com
as a news site). More than 50% of the results right now are from the same ad-infested site, funded by the companies it is writing about.
THE focus of the day will be new, original material. And why?
Well, first of all, RSS feeds barely yield anything more. It's estimated that usage of social control media sank, but that does not translate into more blogging and news articles.
Then there's Google. We have never seen Google News this empty. I swear it looks like news volume fell more than half since the start of the year. You can feel like either the Google "disservice" is dying or news sites are dying (or both). From what we can gather, based on recent reports, Google News will probably go the way of the dodo in a few years (if not just months). It causes legal turmoil to Alphabet, even more so than YouTube with all the DMCA takedowns (which Google has quit handling manually, i.e. with an actual person assigned to asses, as it typically presumes guilt and blindly obeys takedown requests).
What does the future hold for the Web if there is so little material (of decent quality) left on it? We're far from perfect, but Google News has re-added some domains that produce CG spew and actual spamfarms. It is really noticeable that Google has just fired many people in that department.
