From Almost 100% to Just 44%: Microsoft's Bribes to Nigerian Officials Not Enough to Keep GNU/Linux at Bay?
THE (by far) largest population in Africa showed interesting trends back in August when we caught Windows market share sliding down to 47% in desktops/laptops and last month it was down to 45.5% (screenshot below), not necessarily because of the growth of GNU/Linux (which is noticeable) but "Unknown". We don't know what that's all about. But whatever is truly happening there, it probably gives headaches to Microsoft. The general trends are difficult to deny.
When Nigerian schools adopted GNU/Linux and even signed contracts for it Microsoft criminals stepped in with some apparent bribes, enraging the French company (Mandriva) which had signed lucrative support contracts. Remember that Microsoft does not view GNU/Linux as a rival but as vermin of some kind:
“Linux infestations are being uncovered in many of our large accounts as part of the escalation engagements.”

Microsoft does not compete like a real company. Microsoft is basically organised crime. Seeing the news about Microsoft layoffs today, one reader asked: "I wonder what double-digit of their worms have been tipped out of the can to crawl around the open market now? They're no good anywhere in IT because of the combined problem of total lack of skills, steeped in toxic work culture which they will carry with them, and a dyed-in-the-wool toxic ideology which they must openly exhibit just to get hired in the first place."
The reader moreover complained about Microsoft infiltrators and trolls (confirmed; they even admit this!) "'keeping an eye' on the FOSS community..."
They're not only 'keeping an eye', they're attacking. There are spies and worse. █
